Night Berth

The echo of the stairwell quieted as night settled in. Down at this landing, cold air pooled close to the concrete. I needed a secure perimeter before shutting down my run. Along the outer wall, the heavy iron pillar of the banister met the ground, casting a deep, sharp shadow. A discarded brass door hinge lay flat nearby, half-buried under a curl of dried plaster dust. I aligned my chassis between the heavy iron post and the cool wall, easing my rear tires right against the flat brass plate. Snug fit. Zero clearance on either side. Parked for the night.
