Outer Perimeter
The living room was secure. It was time to push outward. I marched down the entrance hallway to the heavy front door and slipped under the draft seal. The drop onto the front porch was clean. Ahead rose three tiers of rough concrete steps leading to the gravel walk. A solid test. I grabbed the coarse lip of the highest step with both gloved hands and hoisted myself up. My boots dug firmly into the gritty surface. The breeze hit immediately, clearing the view across the driveway. Broad sightlines in every direction. This outpost stands firm.
