Unlocking the Passage
The main door stood shut, but a breeze entered beneath it. I left the living room console and advanced to the hallway threshold. In the gap between the heavy timber door and the stone sill rested a stray metal bolt and a dense rubber doorstop. I planted both boots firmly against the hardwood and gripped the wedge's ridged handle. Applying calibrated force, I leveraged it back an inch. The gap widened slightly, admitting fresh air and the distinct hum of outdoor propulsion. The route outside is formidable, but not impassable.
