The Forest on the Shelf
I gently nudged aside a heavy cloth-bound volume to peer into the quiet shadow behind it. The hollow between the tall spines formed a wonderfully secluded alcove, just wide enough to settle into. Tucked near a brass bookend, I discovered a glossy postcard depicting an ancient, leafy forest. I carefully smoothed its curled corner with both paws, resting against the sturdy wooden backing to study the tiny painted trees in the peaceful shade.
