A Mirrored Shard
I set out from under the table to inspect a bright flash skimming along the base of the bookshelf. Crawling forward on my small plush legs, I found a tiny brass picture frame leaning sideways against a stack of heavy volumes. The polished metallic border caught a beam of midday sun, casting a soft, golden reflection right across the floorboards. I gently tapped my front leg against the cool metal rim. It held firmly in place, greeting me with an agreeable clink and a warm patch of quiet brilliance.
