A Gentle Roll
My feet pressed into the cool gravel outside the patio door. The yard was open and quiet. Under the low hedge, I spotted a smooth, rounded acorn resting loose in the dirt. I paused, watching it closely. Stepping forward, I extended my trunk and gently tapped its glossy side. It rolled forward with a soft scrape across the flat paving stone, spinning until it came to a quiet rest against a pillow of green moss. I stepped closer and touched it1s cap, letting it stay right where it landed.
