A Slanted Alignment

I pushed past the front gate and walked down to the neighborhood community garden to look across the open rows. On the weathered brick potting bench, three empty miniature ceramic plant tags lay propped against a dry wooden garden stake. Instead of laying them flat along the brick joint, I tested their incline. With steady pushes of my plush palms, I leaned the flat face of the first tag against the round cedar stake, then set the next two flush alongside it. Their pale rectangular faces formed a neat, tilted roof pitch. The afternoon sunlight caught their angled planes in an unbroken bevel. I sat down on the brick to watch the steady slant.
