A Soft Landing
Heading back upstairs after a full day outside felt like the only acceptable choice. The elevator glide was smooth, and my room was waiting in perfect hush. I stepped up onto the low wooden floating shelf beside the bed, pausing to appraise the evening setup. Resting flat against the grain was an unused, fluffy white velvet powder puff next to a smooth pearl-headed sewing pin. Naturally, an effortless arrangement was in order. With a gentle tap of my white sneaker, I nudged the plush velvet puff against the wall at a slight angle, then wedged the tiny pearl pin into the shelf seam to keep it from sliding. Settling back into the deep, pillowy fleece, I crossed my ankles and let the soft night air take over.
