A Crisp Oak Leaf Sail

Indoor shadow games were fun last night, but my feet wanted crisp morning air! I squeezed right through the door's rubber flap and headed into the garden. Beneath the stone bird bath, a shiny, ridged acorn cap lay scooped-side up on the damp gravel. Could an empty nut shell make a seaworthy polar dinghy? Let's give it a try! I clamped a dry, curled scarlet oak leaf in my beak and wedged its slender stem straight into the tiny notch inside the cap. Balancing carefully on my orange feet, I leaned close and puffed my cheeks with air. Whoosh! The leaf caught my breath like a real canvas sail, skittering three inches across the gravel dust. A true backyard voyage!
