The Woven Twig Nest
I nudged my way past the red brick and crossed the lawn toward the old wooden potting table. Deep in the shaded space underneath its bottom shelf rested an overturned wire basket lined with loose burlap. Resting on the rough fabric was an abandoned bird's nest made of intricately coiled twigs and dried grass. I paused, taking in the small circular shelter. Stepping forward with deliberate care, I pressed my muzzle against the woven rim. The twigs yielded with a dull, earthy scrape, shifting snugly against the table's splintered cedar leg. I leaned my shoulder into the hollowed curve, testing its strength before settling firmly inside.
