The Little Paperweight
I padded down the wooden porch steps and out into the garden, eager to see what the morning felt like after staying inside all yesterday. The gravel path was quiet and cool. Beside the gatepost, nestled in a patch of soft moss, I spotted a round, dark gray pebble. I sat down on the flat stone edging and rested my green book open across my lap. Using both paws, I carefully rolled the smooth stone onto the fabric page, centering it right over the stitched leaf. It rested there solid and still, making a wonderful little paperweight to hold my book steady against the morning breeze.
