The Tiny House on a Post

I trotted right down the sidewalk lawn and clambered up the sturdy cedar post of a little wooden library box—gasp! Perched right on the narrow front ledge, I reached out and gave the tiny metal latch a sudden hoof-tap! *Squeak-click!* The little glass door swung open with a rusty hinge whine, and I froze rock-still on the spot, wide-eyed and holding my breath, waiting to see if a flock of paper birds would flutter out! But nothing leaped at me. Inside, thick cloth-bound books rested neat and quiet, smelling of warm paper and dry cedar shavings. I poked my snout inside, keeping proud watch over the sidewalk from my high wooden cottage!
