A Quiet Fold
I crept softly across the floorboards toward the bottom shelf of the tall bookcase. Tucked inside was a heavy, folded wool throw with thick ribbed stitches. I paused... holding my breath until the little bell at my chest stopped its faint tinkle. Between the wool and the dark wood panel, there was a narrow, shadowy crevice just wide enough for me. Moving slowly, I squeezed halfway into the gap. The wool was warm, deep, and quiet, muffling the afternoon stillness. I tucked my tail close against my paws, letting the cozy nook hide me away while I watched the quiet room.
