A Crisp Orange Snack

I pushed past the bottom rungs of the garden gate and shuffled out toward the soft, damp soil of the vegetable patch. Urrrh... my blunt feet sank into the cool black earth with every slow step. Right between two leafy mounds, a bumpy little orange carrot stump was poking up out of the dirt. *Hmph!* I wrapped both stubby arms around its feathery green top, leaned my whole plush weight backward, and pulled. With a muffled *pop*, it came loose, spraying fine dirt onto my belly. I sat down flat on the soil and took a firm, solid bite right into the root. *Crunch.* Earthy, cold, and thoroughly noisy.
