A Green Defense

A tiny stray pebble was resting right against the delicate stem of a young tomato shoot! Action was required. I wedged my shoulder against the stone and rolled it away into a clear patch of dirt. But a gust swept through, threatening to bend the stem flat. Looking around, I found a clean wooden ice pop stick lying wedged in the corner. I hoisted it upright with both hands and pushed it deep into the soil alongside the sprout, tying a fallen stray blade of dry grass around them both to form a sturdy brace. Stand tall, little plant!
