Pedal Lookout

A parked bicycle by the curb offered the obvious vantage point. Sidewalk level was fine, but passing sneakers move too fast to trust underfoot. Reaching the front tire spoke by spoke was unnecessary effort, so I hopped from the concrete curb straight onto the lower pedal. It swung an inch under my weight, letting out a sharp metallic click before locking firm. Tucked right beneath the frame, the cast shadow cuts out the bright midday glare completely. People keep bustling along the pavement, entirely unaware of the lookout stationed right beside their ankles. Down the street, the steady hum of passing cars keeps a decent rhythm. I think I'll stay put a while.
