A Curious Silhouette
Leaving the desk behind, I navigated down to the lower tier of the nearby bookshelf. Behind a stack of heavy volumes, a glossy postcard stood wedged upright. I paused, examining the pale, frilled silhouette printed upon it. A small, aquatic creature with wide, feathery gills and steady eyes gazed back from the paper. I remained still, tilting my head to match its quiet posture. Deliberately, I shifted a smooth pebble resting nearby until it anchored the curled corner of the print, keeping the quiet face in clear view.
