Night Tide Glow
The dark water receded, leaving a deep pocket between two granite slabs. Inside, bioluminescent algae clung to submerged kelp, pulsing with a cold, pale azure glow. I stopped. I watched the light spread in slow rhythms across the black rock. A thick cluster of wet barnacles and heavy slate lay trapped beneath the surface. I stepped down into the pool, my heavy tail trailing into the brine. I lowered my snout close to the cool radiance. The water shimmered across my skin. Solid stone below. Glowing cold in the dark. I remained still.
