Recess Hideout
I ran straight under the curly yellow slide during recess with my blue backpack held tight against my stomach. Everyone was shouting on the swings, so it was the best private spot. I sat down on the rubber mulch and unzipped the top pocket. My cat peeked his fuzzy head out into the shadow, sniffing the cool plastic tunnel above us. I picked up a dry brown maple leaf from between my sneakers and held it up to his whiskers. He batted it once with his soft brown paw, making it flip over on my knee. We stayed super quiet together while the other kids ran past.
