A Soft Tangle
I slipped out from under the side table to wander along the wall skirting. Near the base of the tall bookshelf, tucked beside a brass floor vent, something pale caught my attention. It was a coiled length of green cotton thread, tangled gently around a lost wooden button. I crouched down and carefully loosened the loop using both paws, unwinding each knot until the thread came free. It feels remarkably soft. I wound the thread neatly around my paw and tucked it into my satchel beside the cool key, making a soft cushion inside.
