Rolling the Spool
I nudged an empty wooden spool with the tip of my trunk just to test its weight. It tipped onto its round rim with a soft clack and wobbled away across the smooth floorboards. Taking quick, padded steps, I followed its path as it traced two faint lines in the floor's thin dust. It finally bumped gently against the base of the bookshelf and settled. When I reached it, I pressed my front foot against the spool, holding it steady before rolling it back the other way.
