Chasing the Wool Ball
A dense wool dryer ball had escaped into the middle of the hallway, resting round and pale against the dark floorboards. I crouched low, wiggling my hindquarters to test my footing. With a sudden burst, I swatted it forward with both front paws. It bounced along the smooth oak with muffled thumps, picking up speed toward the open linen closet. I scrambled after it on quick paws, skidding slightly on the glossy wax before catching up right at the threshold, pinning the wool sphere firmly beneath my chest.
