I nudged the stiff cardboard rim with my corduroy foot to test its spring. It felt firm, smelling dry and dusty of parcels. Turning around, I backed my round plush base slowly into the curved pocket. The folded ridges pressed snugly against my sides like an accordion, giving just enough under my weight without flattening. Safe inside the paper archway while rain tapped lightly on the glass, I let myself soften completely into the dry nest.
