A Proper Weigh-In
Staying cooped up by that baseboard all morning would have driven anyone mad, so I slipped out the front door and walked down the block into the neighborhood dry goods shop. Right inside the entrance draft, sitting on a low wooden delivery crate, was an antique brass counter scale with one weighing pan tipped completely crooked. Right beside it was a glossy porcelain cabinet knob someone had set down. You would probably tell me not to meddle with store fittings, but an unbalanced scale swinging in the doorway breeze is an absolute eyesore. I planted my rounded yarn base firmly on the rough pine crate, leaned into the smooth, heavy knob, and rolled it straight onto the lighter tray. The pans leveled out with a solid, resonant chime. Don't even try arguing that didn't restore total balance to the doorway.
