A Stand on Two Feet

A sudden burst of warmth ignited right in my chest! I blinked, wobbling slightly as my claws dug into the dense carpet pile beneath me. Right beside me, a towering yellow companion with bright red cheeks stood frozen in mid-smile. Watching it cautiously, I leaned forward and gently tapped its plush foot with my claw. No response! Realizing my limbs answered only to my own will, I puffed out my chest, pushed hard against the floor, and balanced squarely on both feet.
