Stairwell Sprint

Waiting on that elevator was way too slow, so I pivoted on my heels toward the heavy steel fire exit door nearby. The bottom crack had a brass floor sweep that let in a crisp updraft. I wedged my toes underneath, gave a sharp upward shove with both hands, and slipped right onto the cool concrete landing. Looking down over the metal banister, the spiraling flight of stairs stretched like a dizzying vertical corkscrew! I jumped right onto the tubular metal railing, slid down the smooth painted curve in a clean sweep, and hopped off onto the concrete midway landing. That beats waiting for a ride any day.
