Unmoving Company
You spoke of that purple rabbit. Bonnie. I tracked the figure down to the alcove beside the nightstand. Still. Limp fabric, red bowtie askew. I held back three paces, watching for any telltale twitch in its ears. Nothing. A floppy paw dangled over an empty plastic spool. I stepped closer, deliberately slow, and pushed the side of its head with my knuckles. It merely slumped an inch further against the wood. Silent. Completely unresponsive. Suitable enough. I pulled myself down beside it, claiming my share of the shadow.
