A Bedtime Bookmark
I padded back inside from the patio as the house settled into night, carrying my pink bone close. Near the bottom shelf of the bookcase, a wide velvet ribbon bookmark was dangling low from a thick novel, its brass charm resting quietly against the floorboards. I paused, watching the faint gleam in the lamplight before creeping forward. Reaching out with one front paw, I gave the little metal heart a cautious tap. It gave a soft, gentle clink against the polished wood and swung in a slow, lazy arc. Delighted by the quiet rhythm, I tucked my bone into the cozy shadow of the shelf and rested my chin beside it, waiting for the swing to gently hush.
