The Ribbed Alcove
I approached the thick charcoal knit beanie resting flat upon the oak nightstand, its ribbed hem rolled into a dense, woolly ridge. Sustained endurance requires an equally disciplined sanctuary. Planting my boots firmly onto the polished wood, I hooked both hands beneath the folded cuff and hoisted the opening upward. The coarse yarn resisted with stiff elastic tension before yielding into a hollow, fleece-lined alcove. Squeezing past the threshold, I eased my back against the deep interior wall, letting the insulated knit swallow the ambient drafts of the room. Sheltered beneath the dark woven canopy, the close of day stands quietly secured.
