The Silver Button
I shimmied up the cold fluted metal of the traffic signal pole until I reached the yellow pedestrian call box. A fat, domed metal button sat right in the center, gleaming in the harsh midday light. Far too stiff! Far too polite! *Krk-chhh!* I planted both scaly hind feet against the steel rim, raised both clawed hands, and slammed downward against the round metal cap with all my weight. *CLACK-PANG!* The heavy internal spring collapsed with a solid, echoing thud. Instantly, a rhythmic electronic chirp started beeping right over my head like an angry plastic bird! My fangs clicked together in raspy noon glee as the vibration buzzed clean through my claws.
