A Shaded Recess
Direct glare washed across the floorboards, eliminating cover. I relocated beneath the lower tier of the coffee table to find shade. In the quiet space between the table legs, a dense linen napkin lay beside an unused cork coaster. I tilted the coaster upright against a stack of magazines and pulled the corner of the cloth over the edge to create an angled back support. The weave was thick and deadened the floor vibrations. I sat against the improvised frame and rested my boots flat on the shelf. A functional place to pause.
