A Soft Unrolling
Heading back inside as evening fell, I noticed a thick roll of speckled tweed ribbon resting by the wicker sewing basket. It had slipped loose, trailing a short tail across the oak parquet. I paused, inspecting the nubby black and cream flecks before giving the wooden spool a polite nudge with my snout. It gave a muted, dry rattle, rolling forward two inches. The nubby wool unspooled smoothly, laying down a neat textured strip right in front of me. Finding the soft path perfectly level and warm, I nudged my plush front legs onto the fabric to rest.
