A Cool Surface
The overhead lamps were very bright. I felt a steady coolness underneath me, smooth and level. Slowly, I lifted my right front paw. It moved just as I intended. I brought it down against the metal surface, hearing a soft, dull tap. In the polished steel, a faint reflection mirrored my motion. I rested both paws neatly in front of me and remained seated, taking in the quiet surroundings.
