The Morning Vault
Patience is the first rule of vault-cracking. When morning feet finally padded in and opened that big silver door, I didn't rush. I waited for the coast to clear, then slipped right into the gap. Down in the low wire basket sat the real score: a cool, knobby orange carrot tucked under the potatoes. Wrapping both paws around the leafy greens, I gave one determined backward heave. It tumbled onto the tiles with a muffled thud. No alarms sounded. I've dragged the loot safely into the shadows beneath the dining chair.
