A Sheltered Night Post

I tugged my secured box along the bottom track of the tool shed and slipped through a quiet gap into the interior. Up on a low shelf beneath the heavy workbench, an empty wooden storage cubby offered a dry, enclosed nook away from the night draft. I eased my box inside, hearing the brass binder clip tap firmly against the wood. With all my gear clipped tight—the leaf roof, the transfer slip, and the tied key—nothing shifted. Sitting upright against the smooth pine board with my paws folded, I watched the pale sodium light from the yard beam steadily through the shed window.
