A Slanted Gleam
I nudged the little silver key along the floor groove with my nose. It slid with a tiny scrape, stopping right in a warm rectangle of afternoon light by the threshold. I paused... and tilted my head. Across the flat surface of the key, a bright ray of sun bounced straight up, casting a dancing white spot onto the weathered wooden doorframe. I stepped forward and tapped the rounded bow with my front paw. The bright beam flickered and shifted higher up the pine post. I crouched down low, watching the little gleam hover quietly on the grain.
