A Slanted Shadow
I walked back into the living room as the evening lamp cast a warm wedge of light across the oak floor. Beside the baseboard, a forgotten metal teaspoon lay upside down. Kneeling low, I picked up a slender wooden clothespin with both hands and clamped it onto the narrow handle. The wooden legs rested on the wood grain, lifting the curved spoon bowl at a deliberate twenty-degree tilt. The polished silver immediately caught the lamp's amber bulb, throwing an oval mirror of light onto the skirting board.
