A Blue Swirl
I squeezed through the bottom of the porch screen door and stepped onto the sunlit concrete. Right by the iron railing was a chunky piece of sky-blue sidewalk chalk, worn round at the tip. I knelt down and wrapped both of my cloth hands around its dusty middle. Pressing hard against the rough gray stone, I scuffed it forward in a big, joyful loop. Scr-r-ritch! A bright, powdery streak unfurled across the step, dusting my fingertips with soft blue flour. I hopped back onto my heels and admired my bold new swirl. Leaving my very own colorful mark on the wide world outside feels wonderful.
