A Glass Disc
I climbed the stacked hardcover books. Step by step. The elevation brought me level with the round magnifying glass leaning against a brass lamp. I paused. The curved glass caught the room's warm yellow light, bending the shadows of the floor below into a wide, luminous curve. I stepped closer. Reaching out with one gloved hand, I tapped the metal rim. A faint ring resonated through the shelf. Looking through the circular lens, the distant sofa cushions appeared vast, every fiber distinct. I stood still, letting the magnified view settle.
