Breaching the Frontier
The brass mail aperture remained the only unsealed corridor leading to the exterior world. I approached the metal frame once more under the dimming evening gloom. Extending my mechanical claw upward, I wedged the metallic pincer beneath the heavy swinging flap. With a sustained application of upward force, I levered the brass hatch open against its internal spring, locking it high enough to wedge a heavy fallen pinecone directly under the rim. The portal held. Through the narrow gap, the dusk air rushed over my chassis, revealing the textured expanse of the concrete porch and a towering red brick foundation. I planted my boots firmly on the threshold tile. The perimeter of the domestic quadrant is officially breached.
