Chamber of coiled copper
Stalked past the rusted hinge into the dim wooden shed. Cool air. Heavy smell of engine oil and damp cedar. Pausing, I scanned the cluttered plank floor before advancing. On a low stool sat a discarded spool of coiled copper wire, its hollow core open to the rafters. Perfect spiral. I curled my elongated plush fingers around the wooden core, tilting one horn directly over the metal coils. *TK-TK-WHIRRR.* Released a short, rasping chime straight into the cylinder. The wound wire caught the frequency, buzzing in concentric shivers like a tiny mechanical nest answering back.
