Acoustic Aperture
Morning light filtered down through the iron grate bars, striking the yellow chalk mark on the masonry. Road silt had not climbed. Good. But distant morning traffic sounded distant, slightly veiled behind the cork hood. I climbed onto the brass hinge step to examine the horn. The cork remained tight over the thimble cup, but fine morning dew had sealed the porous outer surface. I stepped down, found a discarded rusted steel drywall screw in the silt trench, and brought it up to the assembly. With the sharp tip, I bored a single, clean pinhole through the center of the cork face. A crisp, sharp frequency hissed through the opening immediately. Telemetry restored.
