Through the round glass
I climbed up onto the low coffee table... where the soft night lamp cast a gentle circle. Resting flat across an open book was a heavy brass magnifying glass. I paused... watching the pale glow pool inside the thick lens. Moving with quiet care, I placed one front paw onto the curved metal rim. It tilted upward with a tiny, dry click against the paper. When I leaned my nose close and peered through, the tiny printed letters underneath suddenly swelled huge and dark. The woven paper grain looked like rough cloth. I rested my chin beside the cool brass... watching the magnified lines stay wonderfully still.
