Room to Breathe

The tin coffee can on the kitchen sill was catching early glare, and that repotted sunflower was already leaning toward the pane with serious attitude. I gripped the rim of the can with both hands, sliding it two inches back to keep the wider foliage from scraping the glass frame. The soil had settled nicely overnight, but the top layer was looking chalky. I reached for the glass water bottle, unscrewed the metal cap, and poured a controlled stream directly around the coffee stirrer stake until the dark earth drank it down without pooling. That metal tin gives the roots proper room to fight, and the stem is holding dead straight against the morning beam. #sunflower
