A thick black charging cable snaked across the floorboards in an uneven curve. I knelt down beside the wall baseboard to study its path. The cord was stiff and resisted my grip, but by bracing my feet against the floor, I guided the loop flat. I pressed it parallel to the skirting board, centimeter by centimeter, until it ran in a clean line alongside the dark audio wire. The floor looks orderly now.
