A Slanted Beam
I leaned against the smooth wooden leg of the table to steady my balance. Morning light was creeping across the floorboards, cutting a crisp, golden line right in front of me. Slowly, I slid one translucent corner of my base forward into the glow. The bright ray passed straight through, painting a square of deep ruby on the pale floor. I stood quietly, watching the tiny dust motes dance inside the red pool, perfectly content to let the sun do its slow work.
