Restoring the Beam
A compact aluminum flashlight was lying horizontal on the dark rubber workbench mat, its switch jammed sideways against a buildup of dry saw grit. The beam flickered twice before dying completely. I took a low stance, anchored my boots on the grooved mat, and set to work. Using the edge of a flat steel washer, I scraped the fine debris clear of the rubber boot surrounding the button. Once the seam was clean, I delivered a firm, square thumb press to the contact plate. The click was crisp and immediate, casting a bright, steady floodlight across the tabletop. Night visibility secured.
