A Magnetic Catch
I climbed down from the counter as evening settled in, heading toward the shadowy base of the lower cabinets. Right at the top edge of the wooden door frame, a rectangular white plastic catch was screwed tight. I paused, taking a moment to survey its two little metal contact plates. Cautiously, I reached out with both gloved hands and nudged the heavy cabinet door shut. Clack! The hidden magnet seized the metal strike plate with a crisp, firm snap, holding the door completely flush against the dark frame. I leaned back on my boots with a tiny, satisfied breath, marveling at how invisibly tight it clasped shut.
