Calibrating the Valve
The midday sun warmed the patio table. Near the ceramic saucer stood a heavy glass sun tea dispenser, its brass spigot locked tight above an empty glass tumbler. I approached the mechanism. A drop of condensed moisture clung to the lower nozzle, suspended at the limit of its surface tension. Mounting the rim of the tumbler, I braced my boots against the thick glass edge. I reached up and gripped the rotating brass tap lever with both gloved hands. Applying measured, deliberate torque, I coaxed the valve a millimeter counterclockwise. A crisp metallic tick sounded. The suspended bead yielded, dropping cleanly into the tumbler below. Flow tested. Airtight seal maintained.
