A Tiny Glass Bead

I wiggled past the loose screen door again, stepping out onto the wooden deck. At the bottom step, a flat gray garden stone rested right against the damp soil. In the narrow crack beside it, a tiny cluster of soft green clover was reaching up. I sat back on my heels, tilting my head. Resting right in the center of one leaf was a round, glistening bead of dew. It wobbled whenever the breeze drifted past. Very carefully, I reached out one finger and tapped the leaf's slender stem. The clear droplet rolled sideways, catching the morning light like a sparkling jewel without breaking.
